Technology
Evaluation
Which technology, platform, operating system and database management
system combination fits for your company's business? Intel Itanium with
HP-UX and ORACLE as DBMS, IBM eServer iSeries with DB2/400 or
Microsoft Windows with
SQL-Server or perhaps with ORACLE? Only a hardware vendor independent
consulting company can help you finding the right answer to this
question.
We can help
you finding the right technology by comparing platforms and database
management systems, pointing out their benefits and advantages, showing
you the differences in terms of performance, scalability and
manageability between them: |

SAP Setup & Project
Support
Our experience
from many installations, implementations and go-lives can help you and
your company to success. Existing templates, concepts and documentations
can be used and adapted to the current environment and landscape.
The
configuration of the system is generally planned well in advance of the
installation together
with the hardware vendor. Configuration planning involves deciding
whether a central system or
standalone database system is to be installed, and how many dialog
instances are required.
We can support
you from the beginning until the end of your implementation project: |
|
 |
-
Defining
hardware & storage layout, operating system & database release and
patch level
-
Installation & clustering database management system, set
parameters, buffers and memory settings
-
SAP system
installation & clustering
-
Design and
implement SAP system landscape, workload distribution and load
balancing
-
Implement
client concept, backup strategy, printing landscape, prepare,
perform and analyze results of stress test
-
Prepare
SAP GoingLive Check and implement SAP recommendations
-
Install
patches, fixes, support-packages, plug-in, add-on components,
languages, OSS notes and corrections
-

SAP Upgrades
Upgrading a SAP component needs many preparation, pre-
and post-processing activities on the current installed environment. It
is usually requiring a certain operating system, database management
system and support package release.
The experiences from previous projects and the guidelines
from SAP are showing, that upgrading a SAP system landscape which is
implemented as an two or tree system landscape lasts between two and
four month until the final upgrade on the production environment can be
done.
We can support you finding the right upgrade strategy and
perform the technical upgrade of your SAP system landscape: |
|
 |
-
Defining
and planning upgrade strategy
-
Prepare the current SAP system landscape for a
successful upgrade
-
Upgrade operating system, database management
system and the SAP component
-
Helping and supporting you during integration
testing
-
Performing post upgrade activities (adapting
backup strategy, printing environment and connections to other SAP
components)
-

OS/DB Migrations
If your current operating system or DBMS is not
fulfilling anymore your requirements concerning price/performance or
scalability and if the current platform on which your SAP systems are
implemented do not fit anymore in your global IT strategy, then it is
time for a change - a platform change!
Finding the right hardware platform and OS/DB combination
if not yet decided is part of our technology evaluation consulting. As
we are independent form any hardware vendor we can show your the
benefits and advantages of each platform available for SAP.
We migrate your current SAP systems to a newer, more
powerful and more reliable platform and support you finding the right
migration strategy for you: |
|
 |
-
Defining
and planning migration strategy
-
Prepare the current SAP system landscape for a
successful platform migration
-
Setup SAP system landscape on the new hardware
including the installation of DBMS (and optional the operating
system)
-
Migrate the SAP component using the official
OS/DB migration tools provided by SAP
-
Helping and supporting you during integration
testing
-
Performing post migration activities (adapting
backup strategy, printing environment and connections to other SAP
components)

Unicode
Conversions
If your company employs truly global business processes,
such as managing global master data, you will need to support multiple
local-language characters. Various code pages have to enable the display
of national characters and this compliance is only possible through
Unicode - an international standard that supports virtually all of the
languages used in the world, ensuring that they function no matter what
the language or platform.
We support you converting your SAP systems to Unicode and
help you finding the right strategy for this project: |
|
 |
-
Defining
and planning Unicode conversion strategy
-
Prepare the current SAP system landscape for a
successful Unicode conversion
-
Perform the conversion using the official Unicode
conversion tools provided by SAP
-
Helping and supporting you during integration
testing
-
Performing post conversion activities (printing
environment and connections to other SAP components)

Codepage
conversions
To run a truly global enterprise, you need to be able to
support Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) languages such as Chinese and
Japanese. To do this, SAP developed the Global Language Support (GLS)
version on IBM eServer iSeries to support Double Byte Character Set
languages. The new GLS version uses ASCII on IBM eServer iSeries and
moves to using the standard SAP approach of representing data.
Converting your codepage from EBCDIC to ASCII is
necessary to run a truly global enterprise which supports Double Byte
Character Set (DBCS) languages such as Chinese and Japanese. Converting
your codepage keeps your business compatible with the world’s languages: |

-
Defining
and planning codepage conversion strategy
-
Prepare the current SAP system landscape for a
successful codepage conversion
-
Perform the conversion using either the Inplace
conversion tools or export/import tools provided by SAP
